Power soccer has taken me from Indiana to Auburn—and onto courts around the world. The work is still simple: learn, compete, and leave more room for the next player.

Built around the game

Competition opened the door. Coaching, access, and community gave the work a wider purpose.

“I wanted it for myself, and I wanted it for other people.” — Zach, on building the chance for students to represent Auburn · The Observer, 2025

Zach grew up in Pendleton, Indiana, watching his older siblings play on some of the country’s earliest power soccer club teams. He began playing at age 10, then joined Auburn University’s first wheelchair basketball recruiting class.

As his path shifted back toward power soccer, he helped create something that had not existed before: a collegiate power soccer program. Today, his perspective spans athlete, coach, counselor, recruiter, and regional leader.

He holds a Master of Education from Auburn University and is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. Those roles meet in the same place—helping athletes find a competitive environment and a community that takes them seriously.

From a new idea to a national title

As a graduate assistant, Zach was asked to start the country’s first collegiate power soccer team. Auburn finished fifth at nationals in year one, then won the Champions Conference Cup in year two. The result matters; so does the student-run community behind it.
